[Split Test] Which Headline Tripled Conversions on This Landing Page?

Garage Cabinets FB 540x304-split-test

Cluttered garages are certainly a common problem, but what type of copy will actually motivate people to seek out a solution?

That was the key question in this split test from Troy Greenberg of GarageCabinets.com. Troy tested two different headlines:

  • Version A: Got clutter in your garage?
  • Version B: Download Your Free Guide Now!

Which version do you think more than tripled the page’s opt-in rate?

If you chose Version B you are correct!

Version B, with a 100% probability of outperforming Version A, took the conversion rate from 1.20% to 5.46%, which makes a huge difference in the number of conversions over time.

Although we can’t say with 100% certainty why this change caused the increase, here are a few of my speculations:

  1. The incentive featured in Version B increased appeal and lead to an increase in opt-ins.
  2. Generally, if you ask a question in your copy that visitors can respond to with “no,” your conversion rate will suffer. That may have been the case with Version A.

Not all customers are the same, but testing your headlines may be something to consider for your own landing pages.

  • Any chance you guys can whip up a post about how to use your ‘in post’ optins for opt in bribes?

The design is stellar and I know people would find it very valuable!

    • John Nye

Hey Stephen, thanks! Question: Do you mean the opt-in we’ve placed in the split test voting widget above, or how we do LeadBox opt-ins on other posts as well?

      • Yeah, the 3 step split test voting widget in the blue background which leads to an opt in.

Would love to try that out using LeadPages on my website!

        • John Nye

We don’t currently have plans to make the widget available, but if that changes we’ll certainly create a post showing folks how to use it!

          • Damn, ah well! Can’t give away all your tricks. What about the in-post lead magnets? (added an image)

          • John Nye

Well our lead magnet was created with a LeadBox, no tricks up our sleeve there!

          • Yeah of course – but is that design just html or a plugin added to the page? Offering lead magnets like that at the bottom of the page (in such a clean looking design) would be great.

          • John Nye

The design was created and coded by our own team in-house and we were definitely looking for a new, clean look to tidy it up.
