Our BIG Prediction and Announcement for 2014 (Hint: It Involves Lead Generation)

By Kat Von Rohr, Writer for LeadPages

I don’t get to do this very often.

But today, I get to give you a glimpse at the major event happening behind closed doors at LeadPages.

What our talented development team here at LeadPages have been working on for weeks. What our amazing support staff keeps asking about on every call. What our CEO, Clay literally can’t stop talking about during meetings.

The BIG prediction and announcement that will change LeadPages.

We’re officially making this announcement tomorrow. If you’re a customer, that means you can try out this new innovation in less than 24 hours.

But for now, I’ll give you a hint: It’s something that most of our customers will be using for lead generation in 2014. In fact, Clay predicts that by this time next year — this new landing page alternative will be just as popular as our landing pages.

(If you’re wondering — YES, LeadPages only makes landing pages for the moment. So this new development is poised to surpass what we’re already doing.)

Here’s the story of how this all came about…

The Insider Intel that Sparked an Epiphany

As I mentioned, our development team has been working on this ground-breaking new technology for weeks now. But this all started with an idea we got from both customer feedback – and our own data. Let me explain…

As you probably know, LeadPages gives you the ability to sort through all our templates by conversion. That means that you can see what our best, highest-converting landing pages are in LeadPages at any given moment.

LeadPages is the only landing page platform that lets you sort through all our templates by their conversion rate.
LeadPages is the only landing page platform that lets you sort through all our templates by their conversion rate.

What you may not know is right now if you sorted through all our templates inside LeadPages, you would discover that most of the top-performing, highest-converting landing pages have one thing in common…

They all feature a two-step opt-in process.

On a two-step opt-in page, your prospects must click on a call to action button on your page before they even see the opt-in form that allows them to opt-in to your list.

That means that your prospects have to make a conscious choice to join your list, by both clicking a button and then filling out the opt-in form. It’s a bit counterintuitive, but we have found that asking your prospects to take this extra step actually increases conversions — across multiple industries.

(Quick tip for your own landing pages: If you haven’t tried it yet, I recommend doing a split test with a two-step opt-in page vs. a one-step opt-in page. That way you can see if your audience also responds to this type of page.)

This Co-Hosted Webinar Page is a good example of a two-step opt-in process. Your clients have to click the box before they are allowed to opt-in.

Right now, eight of the top 10 highest-performing landing pages inside LeadPages all feature a two-step opt-in process like this.

This isn’t just a LeadPages phenomenon. Many of our contacts in the industry have seen stellar results with two-step opt-in processes recently.

Knowing that, this insider data sparked an epiphany. It inspired our development team to build this major tool that will change LeadPages.

In fact, it has the potential to change how you do lead generation in the future.

Now, after months of work, we’re ready to release this new development to the world. We’re officially making the announcement tomorrow. Stop by tomorrow for a full video tutorial with all the details.

In the meantime — do you have any guesses about what this major announcement and development might be? If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

I’d love this feature. I wonder why it was still not available in leadpages when it’s something that should’ve been integrated a long time ago!

      • Kat Von Rohr

Thanks for the feedback. We appreciate it. 🙂

    1. If the user pre-create several landing pages using several templates, leadpages will automatically switch the official landing page to one of the pre-created that more convert based on the entire conversion’s of leadpage’s users using this same templates? lol

    2. Add/remove new elements? More powerful designer?
    😛

    • Kat Von Rohr

Thanks for weighing in! Check back tomorrow to see if you’re right! 🙂

Programers have found a way to extract email address by simply clicking a “Accept Terms” box and button to “Download” and getting the lead.

    • Kat Von Rohr

Good guess! Check back tomorrow to see if you’re right. 🙂

  • I reckon a 2-step optin widget button thingy that you can stick on your blog or any site anywhere you want.

    • Kat Von Rohr

Another good guess! Check back tomorrow to see if you’re right. 🙂

    • Bwahaha – bang on the money!

      • Stephen Chase

Good going Ian. When I read this guess yesterday I didn’t think it matched their hype; now I know they over-hype.

  • Sarvy Emo

Can’t wait to hear what it is!

    • Kat Von Rohr

Thanks Sarvy! We can’t to tell you either! 🙂

  • Sheila Galligan

    What they said;)!

    • Kat Von Rohr

Haha – thanks for stopping by Sheila! 🙂

  • Rob

I think i know what it is 🙂 do i get some kind of special access or bonus if I’m right? lol 🙂 does it have to do with user/member contributions to features?

    • Kat Von Rohr

Great guess! Nope, sorry no bonus this time. 🙂 I’m just curious to see if anyone gets it! (And for the record, I’m not saying either way if anyone here in the comments has guessed right yet or not.) 😀

  • Hmmm… Is it some way that you use the 2-step optin so the system already knows to deliver the best converting page automatically?? Sort of like using the 2-step as a buffer to determine next steps?

    • Kat Von Rohr

Good guess! Check back tomorrow to see if you’re right. 🙂

      Warm regards,
      Kat, Writer for LeadPages

  • Tom Nunamaker

What if LeadPages could cookie someone after opting in from one leadpages page and know what that person’s email address is. Then any leadpages page in the future would see that cookie and fill in their information automatically for you, maybe even do things like set a tag in Infusionsoft since you know who they are. This could be in companies A and B are both LP customers. company A sets the cookie, but company B’s LP pages would be able to see the cookie and pre-fill the information in.

    • Kat Von Rohr

Another great guess! Check back tomorrow to see if you’re right Tom. 🙂

  • Trevor Mauch

I’m gonna guess… basically the two step opt in functionality that we can put on our websites… like they have here: http://upworthy.com/

We’ve been looking at just building that out ourselves… love how it really greases the opt in path… getting people to commit how they feel about something… then say… “if you like that, you should opt in here”. Great stuff 🙂

    • Kat Von Rohr

Good guess! Check back tomorrow to see if you’re right. 🙂

    • Hey – I said that first Trevor! For me that would definitely be the most valuable – being able to do 2-step optins on our own sites. Either an upworthy popup or a button to go on the blog somewhere.

  • Cookied email addresses?

    • Kat Von Rohr

Good guess! Check back tomorrow for the full details. 🙂

  • Alan Redmond

A wordpress widget that allows you to put call to action images in the sidebar, header, footer or in blog post or page content that triggers the optin popup just like the LeadPages

    • Kat Von Rohr

Good guess! Check back tomorrow to see if you’re right. 🙂

  • Nick

Kat, on a side note… will you be adding the 2-step process to the video background lead page? I’m finding it converting the best for me… wondering how much better it might do if I also add the 2step process to it??

    • Kat Von Rohr

Great question Nick. Unfortunately, company policy restricts me from confirming any further updates (until they’re actually ready to roll like the one mentioned in this post). However, as a customer — you can make any suggestions or requests like this through our customer support team. You can submit any suggestions at: http://support.leadpages.net.

  • Maggie Percy

I’m excited about this, too. I read the comments, and there are so many great ideas. Any one of them would be useful. Just want to say thanks, and I’m a huge fan!

  • How about offering up a re-targeted landing page based on the visitors interests (as much as you can by looking at the cookies in their browser).
It would mean making up a few different landing pages, or better yet, dynamically create new ones on the fly… Mmmm Hmmm

    • Kat Von Rohr

Good guess! Check back tomorrow to see if you’re right! 🙂

  • Michael

    OK…

My guess (hope) is that you will make single and double opt-ins available on all your pages.

I know they’re tested and all, but sometimes I just want to be able to test them for myself.

I mean, what would your 404 page be like with a single opt-in? I’ll never know because I can’t test it. Sometimes I want to vary a “winning” page.

    But I can’t.

Recently, your “Basic Video Squeeze Page” won out over your “Video Sales Page 2” in an A/B test I ran.

    I mean, BIG time won.

I thought, “Hmmm, I wonder if it’s because of the single opt-in.”

“Maybe the people in my niche just hate the pop-up thing.”

I’ll never know because I can’t test it.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I love you guys. I mean it.

But the fact is that I need LeadPages *AND* a coder.

So yeah. That’s my guess – I’m not the first to mention this, and you’re about to deliver us some more amazing options.

If that’s NOT it, well, I’m sure I’ll be amazed with what you’ve come up with.

    I usually am.

    • Kat Von Rohr

Wow! Thanks for the awesome feedback! We appreciate it and we appreciate you. 🙂

  • Sven Kaven

I know what it is. I am sure of it. The leads come with the new optin pages. Am i right or am i right? 😉

    • Kat Von Rohr

Great guess! Can’t say either way though. 🙂 Check back tomorrow! 🙂

  • Ooh… I know, I know! It just popped up inside my account. That is awesome. I was just thinking the other day, I wish I had this on my other webpages, and BOOM, you’ve got it in LP. Thanks Kat, Clay and team for continued awesomeness…

    • Kat Von Rohr

Thanks Bob! We appreciate you too! 🙂

  • Krsnendu Knight

Cookies that detect if someone has already opted in so when they go from Leadpages to the host website they are not asked for email address anymore, but are presented with different offers.

    • Kat Von Rohr

Good guess! Thanks Krsnendu! Check back tomorrow to see if you’re right. 🙂

    • I like this too. Though you’d need some way of setting the cookie for existing contacts too.

  • It’s obvious. It’s a comment form that asks for a lead after people submit a comment

    • Kat Von Rohr

Good guess! Check back tomorrow for the answer.

  • Mohammed Ali

Is it LeadBoxes? If so, great feature – look forward to learning about it!

    • Kat Von Rohr

You’ll see. 🙂 Find out more tomorrow!

      • Mohammed Ali

Yippee! Where’s my prize :)! Seriously, great feature! Look forward to trying it out soon!

  • Derrick

I see what the new feature is and you guys continue to amaze. Been trying to figure out on my own how to do this on my site and didn’t want to pay a developer. Amazing, Thanks.

    • Kat Von Rohr

Thanks Derrick! Appreciate the kind words! 🙂

  • Lucille Splichal

LeadBoxes! Saw this new feature when I logged into my account. It looks amazing and I can’t wait to try it!

    • Kat Von Rohr

Awesome! Glad to hear it Lucille!

  • Oauth/FB registration would be sweet. But whatever it is, I’m sure it will be great. Good job innovating.

    • Kat Von Rohr

Thanks Enoch! Check back tomorrow for all the details! 🙂

  • Rocky Tapscott

Just saw it has been added to my account, freaken awesome guys. I won’t say anything else because I haven’t seen the launch email yet, but I LOVE it. This IS a game changer

    • Kat Von Rohr

      That’s awesome! Thanks Rocky! 😀

  • Dave

Auto fills the option form from email list contact data

    • Kat Von Rohr

Good guess! We’re officially releasing today, so check back in a few for the full details.

  • sweet – Lead Boxes!

    • Kat Von Rohr

      Nice! thanks Cory! 🙂

  • Helle

good job pressing our mystery buttons

    • Kat Von Rohr

      Haha! Thanks Helle! 🙂

  • Ryan Webb

Lead Box. problem… when I add the lead box code it it doesn’t overlay on my site… opens with a leadpages url and after a few seconds will re-direct back to the page on my site… bug? or something I am doing wrong?

    • Kat Von Rohr

Good question. The fastest way to get this taken care of is to go straight to our amazing support team at https://support.leadpages.net and they’ll help you out with this asap.

  • Dave Sentenn

The ability to create multiple tabs on Facebook? But I think I read that’s a Facebook issue, not a Lead Pages issue. Regardless, that would be huge.

  • Kat Von Rohr

Thanks to everyone for the guesses! You can see the answer here: http://blog.leadpages.net/announcing-leadboxes/
